URBAN JEWEL TONE WINTER WEDDING | Portland, Oregon
The weather in Portland, Oregon, where I work predominately, is a wild ride. Even an August wedding can become wrapped in rain and wind (very common actually) -- and in the last few years we have had uncommon heat, wild fires/smoke and ice...all making a photographer's job just a little more complex. Last winter, the Portland area was hit over and over by snow and ice. Cities on the east coast or colder climates like Colorado and Montana are prepared for this! Here in PDX, we are not. So on Lindsay and Shawn's wedding day, the streets were icy...and boy was it BRIGHT out. I was amazed by the bride and groom's flexibility as we navigated heels on ice...sliding cars...and tight spaces to shoot in. The amazing florist Lindsay Helzer had her work cut out for her at the flower market with shipments coming in late and limited...not to mention transporting flowers across the city.
At the end of the day, the sun came out giving everything a bit of a glow mixing with the rich jewel tone palette of their wedding beautifully. I also have to say that I've never seen such wonderful family and friend support as I did with this couple...and so much joy. Lindsey, the lovely bride, also trusted me as she shivered outside and I tried to get her wonderful wedding party portraits in beautiful light...she was really a trooper! So despite crazy weather, very cold temps and limited shooting areas due to ice...the wedding day went off without a hitch and I'm so happy I was able to be a part of it.
