FALL SCOTTISH LIFESTYLE SESSION | Perth, Scotland
My good friend Bethany and I had dreamed of a trip to Scotland for a few years, and we finally made it happen. I knew I wanted to schedule some personal work while there, and take advantage of the gorgeous landscapes and old world structures.
Of course, shooting overseas is never easy logistically. The best organized shoot with people you know, in a city you live in... can easily fall apart. So organizing the logistics for a shoot taking place in a place you don't really have your bearings can be really challenging. I tried to put together a wedding styled shoot, but struggled to find the right gown and florals to pull it off. So after months of toying with that idea, I let it go. I decided to embrace a simple lifestyle session with a great velvet dress and some modern styling to match our lovely model Hannah.
Then I made a big mistake, I tried mailing all the items over in advance...so that the model could arrive at the shoot fully ready to go (and to make my bags a little lighter). Well, everything got lost in the mail despite tracking numbers and multiple phone calls. So with only hours before the shoot, our model Hannah graciously pulled from her wardrobe whatever we could find that would work. I will admit, it was hard to let go of both of my original vision for the session (I would liked to have avoided plaid in Scotland, haha). In the end, we worked with what we had available and it was a great lesson in being flexible and we had a great time.
Until I dropped and nearly broke my film camera, but that is another story (it survived, but wouldn't work for the rest of the session). Sometimes you have to let go and let the photos be what they are going to be, which is exactly what I did here, and we wound up getting some gorgeous ones despite.
